Founded in 1890, the journal has played a leading role in advancing the anthropological sciences (prehistory, anthropology, and ethnography). Its particular focus of interest is the origin of the human species, the progressive evolution of the human physical structure, living conditions, human work, as well as on the biology of human beings today.
It regularly publishes theses, and the results of studies by both French and non-French researchers, summaries, reviews of the most important books and articles, information about anthropological societies, and about upcoming conferences and congresses. Each article is accompanied by an abstract in two languages.
