Early Days of the French book which were held from 18 to 21 March 2010 at the Cultural Center Saqiat el Sawy, were organized and fully funded by the booksellers of Cairo and French editions of the French Institute of Oriental Archeology.

They met in one place, the garden center Saqiat el Sawy, 7 bookstores, UNI-presse and Ifao editions, with the aim of giving visibility to the French-language book and in this way encourage Francophones Egypt to reading.

These first days of the French book were inaugurated by His Excellency the Ambassador of Canada to Egypt, and by Swiss and French diplomats, attended by the leadership of IFAO and guests. This opening, bathed in brilliant sunshine, was followed by a cocktail.

The Egyptian media were present (Nile TV, Channel 2, Al Ahram, ...) to relay information and interview officials, publishers and booksellers.

Many French took advantage of the weekend to come and visit with family and discover something new. Les Journées du Livre Francophone also allowed people from different embassies and cultural centers, journalists, photographers, ... all gathered in this place by a passion for reading and love of the French language.

This deserves to be renewed and the location lends itself perfectly. The organizers are already thinking about next year, the improvements will be made at this event and speaking to conferences could be organized in this context.
